I am a HCPC registered dietitian with 10 years experience in the NHS. I have been in private practice for the past three years. I work with people wanting to eat well, lose weight, manage their diabetes or improve their exercise performance, either for a one-off appointment, or with follow up sessions.
My work includes one-to-one work with individuals, couples or families, exploring eating behaviours, problem-solving and offering information on nutrition, diet and lifestyle.
I can help you identify areas that are problematic, and help you create a plan to enable you to eat well, be healthy and enjoy your food.
Type 2 diabetes is a condition that is hugely influenced by diet, lifestyle and body weight. It is clear that losing weight can improve type 2 diabetes, and in fact, some studies and programmes have claimed that losing weight can reverse type 2 diabetes. I can help you lose weight which may improve insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. I can suggest methods that will allow you to feel full, and will ensure that you receive all the nutrients your body needs. The same principles apply for preventing Type 2 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is a condition where the body does not produce insulin, so it has to be injected. Matching insulin to the amount and type of carbohydrate can be challenging. I can teach you to do this, and formulate plans and ideas to make this easier when you’re at home or eating out.
Exercise performance is greatly influenced by giving your body the right fuel. In a world where there are numerous people giving contradictory opinions, you need to rely on a dietitian to give you accurate, up-to-date advice that is tailored to your needs.
The benefits of eating well should not be underestimated. The human body is a complex organism, and all foods have advantages and disadvantages. The trick to eating well is to eat the right balance of foods, with enough variety to provide the huge array of different vitamins, minerals antioxidants and macronutrients that your body needs. This is much more difficult than a list of “good” and “bad” foods.
I decided to become a dietitian because I am a foodie, from a family of foodies. I believe that the pleasure and social aspects of food are just as important as the health element. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, baking, running marathons and travelling.
I trained at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (now Cardiff Metropolitan University) and gained a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, passing my registration exams and becoming a registered dietitian in 2006.
Since graduating I have undertaken many courses to continue my professional development, but my focus has been in weight management, diabetes (Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational) and exercise. I have professional and personal experience of managing nutrition in exercise, and am registered for a certificate in Sports Nutrition with the International Olympic Committee
I completed a Masters in Diabetes at Warwick Medical School in 2014.
In the past I have been involved in MEND (a family-based nutrition, exercise and weight loss programme for children), insulin pump lead for Herefordshire, and have undertaken research looking at the different digestion rates of different foods and how insulin can be matched to this.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions council (HCPC) and am entitled to practice as a Dietitian. Registration number DT18445

I abide by the HCPC Code of conduct
£140 for an one hour initial appointment including assessment and advice
£75 for a follow up appointment that will last around 30 minutes, or £150 for a series of three follow up sessions, of up to 30 minutes each.
